About our Northwest hospitals

Kaiser Permanente's mission is to provide high-quality, affordable health care services to improve the lives of our members and the communities we serve.

We’ve got you covered
Kaiser Permanente Northwest provides a range of hospital care, including emergency and inpatient services. In the Salem area and in Washington, Kaiser Permanente members can receive routine hospital care through our arrangements with community hospitals.  In the Portland area, we will generally direct your care to one of our two hospitals or an affiliated plan hospital. Kaiser Permanente owns and operates:

  • Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center
    10180 SE Sunnyside Road
    Clackamas, OR  97015

  • Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center
(Specialty medical care began for outpatients began June 4. The hospital won't open for care until Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.)

Both hospitals provide general medical and surgical services.  We concentrate  most of our specialized medical and surgical care at Sunnyside, including:

  • Inpatient adult cancer care.
  • Heart and vascular care.
  • Brain surgery.
  • Orthopedics (joint replacement surgery, hip replacements, and robotic surgeries will be centralized at Westside after it opens).

We’ve got you covered

In cases of highly specialized care, Kaiser Permanente partners with local hospitals to create a stronger program for our patients and the whole community. By combining patients in one communitywide program, we ensure a higher quality program for everyone.  Examples include:

  • Organ transplants are done at Oregon Health & Science University.
  • Newborns who need special attention get care in the neonatal intensive care unit at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland.
  • Children get hospital care at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
  • Patients with severe burns get treatment at the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

Regardless of the hospital, a Kaiser Permanente physician will oversee your care. Because your medical condition can change quickly during a hospital stay, we have physicians working onsite around the clock who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients. We have certified nurse midwives and also physicians who specialize in delivering babies onsite at our Sunnyside Labor and Delivery unit 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You are the center
You are the center

You – as a patient or loved one of a patient – are at the center of how we design, build, and renovate our hospitals and medical offices.  We focus on every detail that goes into the health and wellness of the whole person, from choosing interior colors that soothe the senses to organizing meal service around your preferences. We call it our “total health environment.”

As one of the largest builders and operators of hospitals in the country, Kaiser Permanente is highly efficient at creating new hospitals. It allows us to be good stewards of our members’ premiums dollars. Instead of paying for blueprints from scratch, we simply refine our well-tested hospital design template with each new hospital.  We can then invest in new technology and improving quality
